NBCS approach to the effective boson number in the interacting boson model

The number of valence bosons in the interacting boson model is estimated on the basis of BCS occupation probabilities of levels generated by a Nilsson potential for 28<Z<82 and 50<N<126; special emphasis is put on the role of deformed-shell closures
