Radioisotope tracers in enhanced oil recovery

  • 1. Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Lucas Heights (Australia)
  • 2. Santos Ltd., Adelaide (Australia)

Description

The use of secondary recovery practices can increase significantly the recovery of oil from its reservoir. The practice adopted must be suited to the type of oil and the reservoir characteristics. The Tirrawarra oil and gas field in South Australia is a low permeability reservoir which is being developed using the miscible gas flood technique. Radiotracers are being used to help evaluate the process and optimise oil production. The early results from Tirrawarra are described
