Effect of remelting procedures on the density of metal produced by vacuum arc remelting
- 1. Moskovskij Inst. Stali i Splavov (USSR)
Description
Analyzed is the formation of axial porosity in ingots of the 0Kh18N10T steel and of a number of nickel base alloys produced by vacuum arc remelting in dependence on the conditions of additional feeding with liquid metal in the solid-liquid zone through a skeleton of growing crystals. Inevitability of a certain non-uniformity in density over the ingot cross section depending on remelting conditions (specific current density) is theoretically shown and experimentally proved. It is possible to force considerably the vacuum arc remelting conditions without decreasing ingot density
