Administration of interleukin 2 to a child with stage IV neuroblastoma after chemotherapy, therapy with 131iodo metaiodobenzyl-guanidine (mIBG), and bone marrow transplantation

Description
Significant tumor regression was achieved after two courses of IL2 in a 4 year old boy with a stage IV neuroblastoma. IL2 altered the characteristics of tumor cells resulting in changed m-IBG kinetics in the infiltrated bone marrow. After three months and three IL2 courses a tumor progression was indicated by the growth of pelvine lymph nodes. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
IL-2 bietet sich als Chance fuer die Tumortherapie an. Nach zwei Therapiebloecken mit IL-2 wurde bei einem 4 Jahre alten Jungen mit Neuroblastom Stadium IV eine deutliche Tumorregression erreicht. IL-2 aendert die Eigenschaften der Tumorzellen, wodurch im befallenen Knochenmark eine geaenderte Kinetik des m-IBG bewirkt wird. Nach drei Monaten und drei IL-2 Bloecken zeigte das Wachstum von Leistenlymphknoten eine Tumorprogression an. (orig.)Additional details
