Diagnosis value of radionuclide whole body bone imaging to unexplained pain

  • 1. Zhejiang Medical Univ., Hangzhou (China). Dept. of Nuclear Medicine

Description

Whole body bone imaging (Using 99mTc-MDP) were performed on 115 patients with unexplained pain. 93 of them have a positive bone imaging. Results of bone imaging with roentgenograms and surgical biopsy show that 23 of them were diagnosed as benign bone diseases, while 53 were metastatic, and 17 still underfemined. Results indicate that the possibility of malignant bone disease must be considered for patients with unexplained boneache who are ineffective under general treatment, specially in old persons over 50 years old. Radionuclide whole body bone imaging is of definite value for minotoring the causes of boneache. Most cases will be confirmed if bone imaging is combined with bone roentgenograms for reference
