Ageing management and refurbishing of research reactors Cirus - a case

  • 1. Research Reactor Maintenance Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Cirus, a 40 MWt Research Reactor at Trombay has been in operation since 1960. In early nineties, the reactor started showing signs of ageing; detailed and systematic ageing studies were carried out and the need for refurbishing was identified for its continued operation. Some of these works needed developmental efforts. Several safety up-grades were also included in the refurbishing programme. The reactor was subsequently refurbished and re-commissioned. The paper describes the methodology adopted and the refurbishing carried out. (author)
