Survey of the results of a one-dimensional kinetic benchmark problem typical for a thermal reactor

This paper reviews the contributions submitted to a series of one-dimensional problems conceived as a starting point for subsequent multi-dimensional problems. The aim in setting the problems (which are detailed in the attached note) has been to focus attention on promising methods of solution so that no 'real' reactor problem or simulation is implied. The problems contain a simplified form of reactivity feedback in an axial core representation with reflectors and a controller. The basis of the problem is to compute an initial steady state and then to follow a transient caused either by moving the control rod or by varying cross-section. In response to this series of problems, nine submissions were returned from various interested parties solving some or all of the cases. Section II of the paper lists the submissions received and summarises the codes and methods used. In Section III the quantitative results of the nine submissions are given. Die Arbeit gibt einen Ueberblick ueber die Beitraege, die zur Loesung einer Reihe eindimensionaler Probleme eingereicht wurden, die als Ausgangspunkt fuer nachfolgende mehrdimensionale Probleme dienen sollten. Bei der Stellung dieser Probleme (die im Anhang aufgefuehrt werden) ging es vor allem um die Entdeckung brauchbarer Loesungswege, so dass kein 'echtes' Reaktorproblem und keine Simulation Beruecksichtigung fand. Die Probleme enthalten eine vereinfachte Form von Reaktivitaets-Feedback in einer Axialkern-Darstellung mit Reflektoren und einem Regler. Grundgedanke des Problems war die Berechnung eines anfaenglichen stationaeren Zustands und die Verfolgung eines Transienten, der entweder durch Bewegung des Reglerstabes oder durch einen veraenderten Querschnitt entstanden war. Auf diese Problemserie hin wurden von verschiedenen interessierten Stellen Beitraege zur Loesung eines Falles oder aller Faelle eingesandt. Teil II der Arbeit stellt die eingesandten Beitraege vor und gibt einen Ueberblick ueber die verwendeten Codes und Methoden. In Teil III werden die quantitativen Ergebnisse der neun Einsendungen angegeben. Ergebnisse und Methoden werden in Teil IV diskutiert. (orig./AK)Additional details
