The state-of-the-art in the area of safety analysis reports for RMBK reactors

As designer-General of of the RBMK reactors, Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering (RDIPE) is coordinating all major activities related to design safety and safety analysis of these facilities. The regulatory document TS TOB RU-87 describes main requirements for safety analysis, its scope and presentation of results, it serves as a basis for performance of plan-specific safety analyses and in-depth safety assessment (analog to Western Safety Analysis report SAR) for all RBMK NPPs, since 1997. Safety analyses report for each reactor (TOB RU) is being included in the documentation submitted by Plant Operator to Regulator - GAN of Russia with licensing application. Information about TOB RU prepared for specific Russian RBMK plants are presented. Recommendations which rely on GAN regulations and recommendations made by international group of experts are meant to introduce a new regime of NPPs operation and are applicable to Kursk Units 1 and 2, and all units of Leningrad NPP. Brief description of the most important projects related to the safety analysis of RBMK plants is included
