Local magnetism in alloying and nonalloying systems
Description
Basic aspects of local magnetism are discussed. The magnetic behaviour of metallic f and d systems is reported, in particular of 4f, 3d, and 4d atoms under extreme changes of the chemical environment, in e.g. nonalloying systems. Such systems can be produced by heavy-ion reactions and recoil implantation. The local susceptibility and spin dynamics of the implanted 4f and d ions can be measured by the time differential perturbed angular γ-ray distribution method. These features include the possibility to probe the single-ion-behaviour in nonalloying systems where large positive or negative lattice pressures are acting on the implanted ion. 38 refs.; 22 figs.; 1 table
