Innershell ionization in heavy ion-atom collisions and its applications

  • 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

Recent works associated with the innershell ionization in heavy ion-atom collisions are reviewed. In the first part, the mechanism of the innershell ionization is discussed for three different situations of relative velocity of the incident ion and the innershell electrons. The X-ray and the Auger electron spectra due to the collision of heavy ions are discussed in detail in the second part. Many examples of X-ray spectra obtained under various situations are presented. Transitions between quasi-molecular orbits and the life of innershell vacancies are treated in the third and fourth parts. The emission of various types of bremsstrahlung is treated in the fifth part. Finally, the application of the innershell ionization phenomena to the ultra-microchemical analysis is reviewed as an example of applications. (Aoki, K.)
