Migration of radioactive wastes from shallow-land burial site under unsaturated conditions

  • 1. Korea Advanced Energy Research Institute, Daeduk-Danji (Republic of Korea)

Description

The small amount of radioactivity observed at the environs of several of shallow-land burial sites have called for more thorough evaluation of the potential of long-term redistribution of buried radionuclides. This study was intended to observe the effects of unsaturated flow conditions, prevailing in many shallow-land burial sites, on the movement of radionuclides, to implicate the hysteresis effect in the comparison of unsaturated flow with unsaturated flow, and to validate a numerical model with detailed experimental flow and transport data. To be realistic the soil employed was obtained from a location where shallow-land burial is practiced
