Description
Cancer is reported to be leading cause of death in India. Brachytherapy, a form of radiation treatment is considered to be one of the modern and effective modes of cancer therapy. High dose rate brachytherapy equipment (HDR) has been identified worldwide as cost effective Brachytherapy equipment. India needs HDR equipment to improve quality of cancer therapy. Presently, India does not posses technology to produce high specific activity isotope (192Ir) needed for HDR and requisite treatment equipment. BRIT has taken up development of treatment unit and and radioactive source. (author)
