  • 1. Hot Laboraries and Waste Management Center (HLWMC).Atomic Energy Authority, Cairo (Egypt)

Description

Natural radioactivity in the crude oil and its produced water and sludge wastes from the petroleum exploration on the suez gulf, eastern desert in egypt were investigated . A low radioactivity was found in the produced water and crude oil samples. In the sludge waste samples, the high levels o radioactivity found to be 11.96 and 1.75 KBq.Kg-1 for 226 Ra(of U-series)and 228 Ra (of Th-series), respectively in the sludge waste samples. Treatment the radionuclides of interest in the sludge waste was investigated based on the conversion of these radionuclides into carbonate salts using various carbonate sources. the different parameters affecting the treatment ws studied and a removal of about 65% of radium from the sludge was reached
