Framework for nuclear security system in Serbia

Serbia is a country in transition with complex nuclear legacy of the past to be solved. It is situated in a sensitive region of Balkans. Turbulent changes in the past decade influenced its national capabilities and international relations. Realizing that responsibility for nuclear security rests entirely with individual State s the country is reestablishing. upgrading and strengthening national nuclear security system with national efforts . International assistance and international and regional collaboration are essential in reaching compliance with global directions, in particular after a period of absence in international cooperation. Modernization of national nuclear legislation and regulatory infrastructure is taking into account implementation of relevant international nuclear security legal instruments, standards and guidance. An adequate border control and illicit trafficking response mechanisms, management of nuclear and radioactive materials and orphan and other radioactive sources and a proper physical protection system are understood in a synergy with safety and safeguards.
