Cabibbo angle and the asymmetry of the 35Ar decay

It is demonstrated that using available experimental data of the β-decay of 35Ar it is possible to obtain a value of the vector coupling constant Gsub(v) which is in excellent agreement with those values obtained from the studies of 0+ → 0+ β-transitions and hyperon β-decays. Taking into account the end-point energy Esub(o) = 4,968.5 +- 3.5 keV together with the recently measured asymmetry parameter of the angular distribution of positrons from polarised nuclei, A = 0.33 +- 0.06, we obtained Gsub(v) = (1.4011 +- 0.0120) x 10-49 erg x cm3. This result yields sin theta sub(v) = 0.218 +- 0.037 which agrees well with the 'normal' Cabibbo angle. Thus this work provides an important contribution in solving the 35Ar 'puzzle'. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Es wird gezeigt, dass man mit vorhandenen experimentellen Daten zum β-Zerfall von 35Ar einen Wert fuer die Vektorkopplungskonstante Gsub(v) erhaelt, der mit den Ergebnissen von Untersuchungen von 0+ → 0+ β-Uebergaengen und Hyperonen-β-Zerfaellen ausgezeichnet uebereinstimmt. Beruecksichtigt man die Endpunktenergie Esub(o) = 4.968,5 +- 3,5 keV und den vor kurzem gemessenen Asymmetrieparameter der Winkelverteilung von Positronen von polarisierten Kernen, A = 0,33 +- 0,06, so erhaelt man Gsub(v) = (1,4011 +- 0,0120) x 10-49 erg x cm3. Aus diesem Ergebnis folgt sin theta sub(v) = 0,218 +- 0,037. Dieser Wert stimmt mit dem 'normalen' Cabibbowinkel gut ueberein. Die vorliegende Arbeit leistet damit einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Loesung des 35Ar-'Raetsels'. (orig./AK)Additional details
