Description

The technique of ion implantation provides a new method for producing surface alloy layers with compositions and structures that are completely inaccessible by conventional metallurgical techniques. The potential applications of these noval alloys are numerous. Examples are given in the text of the use of ion implantation to improve the resistance of metals to both general and localized aqueous corrosion, to improve resistance to high temperature oxidation, and as a tool in fundamental studies of corrosion mechanisms
