Overall review on waste management activities in Finland - Programme of power companies
Description
According to the Finnish legislation the waste producers are responsible for all phases of nuclear waste management. The requirements laid down in the decision of the government are included in the operating licenses of power plants. The power companies have founded the Nuclear Waste Commission of Finnish Power Companies (YJT) to coordinate the research work. YJT submits annually to the Ministry of Trade and Industry for review a research programme of the next calendar year as well as a report of the previous year. The final storage of spent reactor fuel as well as storage of low and intermediate level waste are reviewed in this proceeding. Testing of possible final disposal sites are also reviewed
