Non-universality of the TL-LET response in thermoluminescent Li2B4O7: the effect of batch composition

Two batches of Li2B4O7:Mn thermoluminescent bulb dosimeters (TLD-800; Harshaw) were irradiated with monoenergetic meV neutrons and the relative thermoluminescent production efficiency, eta was found to be batch dependent with eta1=0.775+-0.007 and eta2 =1.105+-0.017. Spectrochemical analysis reveals large variations in the concentrations of Al and Si between the two batches. The authors have recently observed similar effects in thermoluminescent LiF. The relative thermoluminescent response of both LiF and Li2B4O7 is apparently extremely sensitive to ppm concentration variations of various TL co-activators or to other unknown physical or chemical characteristics.
