A popular account, with many photographs and diagrams, of the Australian uranium industry, particularly the mining operations taking place at the Ranger Uranium Mine in the Northern Territory and at the Olympic Dam Mine at Roxby Downs in South Australia. Discussed in separate sections within the article are the composition of matter, the nuclear fuel cycle, the arguments for and against the export of Australian uranium, and the work of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and its HIFAR reactor.
