Guide for sampling and preliminary characterization of naturally occurring radioactive materials 'NORM' in a pilot zone of the Middle Magdalena valley for the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources

This project consists of carrying out the evaluation of the presence of radionuclides of natural origin (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material, NORM, for its acronym in English) in the process of exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources in the northern part of the Middle Magdalena Valley (VMM, Colombia), whose objective is oriented to the generation of a methodological technical guide to determine the occurrence of this type of materials. Recent research conducted to introduce Colombia, in the field of the exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbon resources (HNC), opens a window of opportunity for the positioning of this issue within the national context. In this order of ideas, scientific investigations that are framed in this scenario contribute to the practical solution of an identified technological problem. The preparation of the planned technical guide constitutes an important element of standardization of the NORM sampling and characterization protocols, applicable to the exploitation areas of this resource at the national level, facilitating the adoption of technical measures that guarantee the adequate exploitation of these. resources with radiological and environmental safety criteria.
