Description
The estimation of genetic risks of exposure to ionizing radiation in man is a major exercise in extrapolation from animal data: the estimate of interest is that of induced genetic disease in man whereas the data used in the calculations pertain to induced mutations and chromosomal aberrations in experimental mammals. This paper addresses some of the concepts, problems and considerations involved in bridging this gap with respect to induced gene mutations and provides some personal views on what needs to be done in the coming years
