Lung metastases of thyroid cancer detectable only by radioiodine imaging
Description
Seven cases of micrometastases in the lungs have been detected only by scanning after 131J-treatment on days 5 or 7. This visualization of early hematogenous dissemination gives a chance for emergency treatment, before an X-ray radiography becomes positive. Total 131J- activities were thus reduced to 11100 MBq - 22200 Mbq realizing a reduction of whole body burden. Post-mortem examination confirmed the phenomenon, demonstrating micronodules with diameter 0,2 to 0,5 cm
