Clinical significance of measurement of changes of plasma ET and E-selectin contents after treatment in patients with essential hypertension
Description
Objective: To investigate the changes of plasma ET and E-selectin contents after treatment in patients with essential hypertension. Methods: Plasma ET (with RIA). E-selectin (with ELISA) contents were measured in 39 patients with essential hypertension both before and after treatment as well as in 35 controls. Results: Plasma ET and E-selectin levels were significantly higher than those in controls (P<0.01) before treatment. After 3 months' treatment the plasma ET and E-selectin contents in the patients were not much different from those in the controls (P>0.05). Conclusion: Abnormally high plasma ET and E-selectin levels were one of the main pathophysiologic changes in essential hypertension and might be of prognostic importance. (authors)
