A tagging system for high-energy photons based on a multichannel lead-scintillator total absorption spectrometer and using of spectrum shifters

Description
A system for tagging high-energy photons of the experimental setup 'Cascade' at the Serpukhov accelerator is described. It is intended to be used for obtaining photon beams with an energy of up to 30 GeV. In the tagging system use is made of a multichannel lead-scintillator total absorption spectrometer and spectrum shifters. The design of the spectrometer has made it possible to minimize two factors which impair the energy and correspondingly the coordinate resolution of this type of spectrometer. The design also enabled an amplitude-coordinate method in the tagging system for the determination of the photon energy, while improving the energy resolution of the system. (orig.)
