A large ionization chamber for fission fragment nuclear charge identification at the LOHENGRIN spectrometer

Description
A large ionization chamber has been developed to study the mass and nuclear charge distribution of fission fragments collected at the mass separator LOHENGRIN. The ionization chamber is equipped with a stripped cathode to determine the position of the incoming fragments and a divided anode to measure simultaneously the energy loss and the residual energy in order to separate nuclear charges up to Z=41. This device considerably extends the mass range accessible at LOHENGRIN (yield measurements as low as 10-9 fragment/fission). (orig.)
