Effect of the cells free extract in irradiated cultures

Description
When bacterial cultures irradiated with ultraviolet (UV) or X rays are spread on the surface of an agar solidified media in the presence of not viable cells, the survival of the irradiated population is increased. The nonviable cells promote the repair of irradiated bacteria, a phenomenon termed neighbor restoration. This restoration can also be observed by the addition of cell free bacterial extracts (CFBE). In this paper we described the effects of the addition of CFBE either prepared using a refrigerated hydraulic press or a ultrasonic source. The results show that the ability of both CFBE in to increasing the survival of UV irradiated cells is the same. In conclusion, it is observed that the method used to prepare CFBE does not modify the repairing activity of this extract. (author)
