Muon pair production with low masses (Msub(μ+μ-) < 1 GeV/c2) in π-N collisions at the 27 and 40 GeV/c

Description

The results on study of low mass muon pair production (Msub(μsup(+)μsup(-)) < 1 GeV/c2) in the inclusive process π- + (Cu nucleus) → μ+μ- +... at the 27 and 40 GeV/c momenta are presented. There is a dimuon continuum with Msub(μsup(+)μsup(-)) < 0.5 GeV/c2 in the mass spectrum which decreases steeply with the growth of Xsub(F) where Xsub(F) is the kinematic variable. At mass Msub(μsup(+)μsup(-)) approximately 0.8 GeV/c2 peak connected with rho0 and ω-mesons production are observed. In this mass range the differential cross section is well described by dependence approximately exp (-bEsub(perpendicular)) on transverse kinetic energy Esub(perpendicular) within the whole range of transverse momenta (0 < Psub(perpendicular) < 2 GeV/c), here the value of slope b increasing with Xsub(F). Dependence dσ/dXsub(F) of inclusive rho0 and ω-mesons production is obtained
