Growth of anodic oxide film on zirconium in water-glycol-citrate media

  • 1. Dept. of Chemistry, Osmania Univ., Secunderabad (India)

Description

Anodic oxide film growth on zirconium in 0.1 M trisodium citrate solution containing various proportions of water and ethylene glycol has been studied at a current density of 4 mA.m-2 and at 300K. It was found that the rate of film growth, current efficiency, field of formation and breakdown voltage increased with increasing glycol content in the solution. In a 90% ethylene glycol medium the film formation is uniform up to the breakdown voltage. The solvent medium plays a crucial role in the anodic oxide film growth on zirconium. (author)
