Description
A technical feasibility program of utilizing an internal friction damping (IFD) nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technique under laboratory and field conditions for piping systems has been initiated. The applicability of the IFD-NDE technique for four inch (10.1 cm) stainless steel by-pass lines and ten inch (25.4 cm) feedwater lines has been established. The overall objectives of the program include: 1. application of the IFD-NDE technique for four inch (10.1 cm) stainless steel lines that simulate by-pass lines, 2. application of the IFD-NDE technique to full size feedwater lines in an on-line boiling water reactor, 3. evaluate the feasibility of utilizing the IFD-NDE technique as an incipient crack detection method for laboratory stress corrosion cracking tests. Es war mit einer Durchfuehrbarkeitsstudie zur Nutzung der inneren Daempfung als zerstoerungsfreie Ermittlungsmethode begonnen worden, fuer Rohrleitungssysteme unter Labor- wie Betriebsbedingungen. Die umfassenden Zielsetzungen des Programmes beinhalten: 1. die Anwendung der Methode auf vier Inch (10,1 cm) Leitungen aus rostfreiem Stahl, die Umgehungsleitungen simulieren, 2. die Anwendung der Methode auf Speisewasserleitungen in einem Siedewasserreaktor im Betrieb, 3. die Ermittlung der Durchfuehrbarkeit des Gebrauchs dieser Methode als Risserkennungsverfahren in Laborversuchen mit Spannungsrisskorrosion.
