Radioprotective effect of IL-2 and IL-6 on induction of apoptosis in cells by enriched uranium

Description

Studies on apoptosis in lymph e cell line Molt-4 and macrophage cell line Ana-1 induced by 235U and the radioprotection of IL-2 and IL-6. The cumulative radiation absorption doses of 235U in cultured cells through different periods were estimated. The microautoradiographic study showed that at first 235U was phagocytized by Molt-4 and Ana-1 cells, and then 235U was penetrated into nucleus. The morphological changes in Molt-4 and Ana-1 cells were observed by fluorescence microscopy. The authors found that cells irradiated by enriched uranium 235U displayed a significant nuclear fragmentation and pyknosis. The finding indicated that 235U can significantly increase the DNA fragmentation as well as apoptotic bodies formation in cells, and these effects could be inhibited by IL-2 and IL-6. So both IL-2 and IL-6 showed radioprotective effect on induction of apoptosis in cells by enriched uranium 235U
