The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) is involved in advanced research programs based on the use of nuclear science and technology for materials microanalysis. This paper is a review of accelerator-based probes to characterise environmental, biological and industrial materials. Most examples are inspired by the ANSTO research program. (author)
