Transmutation by particle-fuel reactors

Description
We discuss transmutation of minor actinides (MAs), 99Tc, and 129I by particle-fuel fast reactor. We evaluate the transmutation rates and the transmuted quantities of those nuclides. Also, we calculate the number of neutrons produced by one proton and the required proton beam current when the particle-fuel fast reactor is operated by a proton accelerator. We also discuss the radiation damage to a transmutation system using particle fuel that relies upon the spallation reaction generated by the proton accelerator. We calculate the atomic displacement, the production rates of hydrogen and helium, and energy deposition, varying the keff. (author)
