Use of Naturally Occurring Radioisotopes for Checking Dams in the Beskid Range

For this work, the author used radon as it is a radioactive element occurring naturally in the soil air in geological faults in the dam area of Sance-Recice and between Dolní Bečva and Rožnov. The purpose of the work was to establish whether there were any potentially dangerous faults, fissures or other rock contacts in the area in which dams were being constructed. By means of soundings to detect radioactivity the author discovered disturbances in Sance-Recice which cut across the axis of the River Ostravice, whereas in Dolní Bečva Rožnov, the foundations of the dam were not disturbed.
