Description

For the purpose of research on seismic effects on structures, a high performance large vibration table systems is now under construction at the Nuclear Power Engineering Test Center. Being 15 m wide and 15 m long, and the maximum loading weight on the table is 1000 tons. The talbe is vibrated horizontally and vertically, concurrently. Severe requirements were imposed on the structure of the table. For example, it must have high strength and stiffness, limited weight and frequency, severe precision, and so on. On designing the table structure, we made several kinds of model tests with calculations. Static and dynamic tests were made for measuring the distribution of reaction and natural frequency by using a general model made of acrylic resins. Static tests were made for confirming the strength and stiffness with actuators and specimens connected to it, and fatigue tests were made by using a partial steel model. The results of the above tests coincided well with the calculations, and satisfied the above requirements. We improved the detailed design of the table by applying the above results. (author)
