Application of an accelerator for subthreshold diagnostics of active liquid media for direct nuclear pumped lasers

Description

Results of research for laser-active liquids based upon solutions of the rare earth elements (Nd, Eu or Tb) and uranium in aprotic inorganic acids are presented. The experiments were carried out using the KG-0.3 accelerator of the Institute for Physics and Power Engineering. Homogeneous volume excitation of lasants has been induced by charged particles produced by interaction of 14 MeV neutrons with atomic nuclei of the laser liquid medium. The measurement results of the fluorescent lifetime, the position and width of emission spectral lines of activator ions during excitation by nuclear reaction products and the pumping efficiency of the upper laser level by the charged particles are presented. Analysis of experimental data has been performed for subthreshold diagnostics of liquid lasants as media for nuclear pumped lasers
