On polarization effects in proton inelastic scattering on some light and intermediate nuclei

Creators

Description

The behaviour of the analyzing power (AP) of A(THETA) during inelastic scattering of polarized protons on light nuclei was investigated. The proton energy was approximately 20 MeV, the average beam polarization being 80%. It is noted that A(THETA) angular dependences differ appreciably on excitation of several states with equal Isup(π) in one and the same nucleus, especially when the E* excitation energy differs greatly. At the same time A(THETA) for levels with different Isup(π) and similar E* often differ relatively slightly. Sometimes changes in A(THETA) with E* were of a systematic nature. The observations results are analyzed and compared with the calculation results for individual nuclei. The pecularities observed in the behaviour of A(THETA) may be attributed to the effect of the state configuration. Most probably, they are due to the isospin dependence of the spin orbital part of nucleon-nucleon interaction. These dependences, and hence the nuclear structure, may be reflected in the calculations by the coupled-channels method and the method of distorted waves with deformation of the potential of spin-orbital interaction. The calculations carried out confirm the assumptions
