Description
Recently, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have been intensively studied because SOFC will increasingly be expected to provide high power density and high reliability, since SOFCs are constituted with all solid components, adherence between a metal electrode and an oxide solid electrolyte is not very good. This causes an increase in contact resistance and a decrease of active areas for electrochemical reaction. High temperature operation (1000 degrees C) also causes anode shrinkage. In particular, the increase of contact resistance in the anode/solid oxide electrolyte and the increase of anode polarization causes a significant degradation of cell performance. In this study, the authors have examined the ZrO 2 electrolyte, and decreasing shrinkage of the Ni anode
