Properties of the 360 and 550 nm TL emissions of the '110 deg. C peak' in fired quartz

Description

In this paper some properties of the 550 nm emission of the '110 deg. C peak' in four samples of fired quartz have been investigated and compared to the properties of the usually studied 360 nm emission. In particular, the luminescence growth in the 550 nm region was found not to show significant saturation up to 200 Gy in contrast to the 360 nm emission which starts to saturate at much lower doses. In order to see the sensitisation patterns, the thermal activation characteristics (TAC) in both emission bands was determined. It was found that in three of the investigated samples the TACs for the 360 nm and for the 550 nm bands were entirely different, suggesting that possibly the sensitisation mechanism in both emission bands is different or that the two emissions occur in different zones of quartz
