Description
A low level high-purity-Ge detector system for the measurement of low level uranium and thorium has been set up in Nuclear Laboratory at Physics Department, UTM. A background reduction by a factor of 27 is achieved by materials selection, cryostat configuration and shielding. An analysis of the background components is given. The integrated count rate of 8.7 counts per second within the energy interval 50-1600 keV is achieved in this spectroscopy system
