Critical scattering of neutrons by Fe: study of the hydrodynamic and critical regions
Description
In the present work we describe the latest experiments on the critical magnetic scattering of neutrons by iron just above the Curie temperature, performed at the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires at Saclay. In these experiments we have tried to explore the 'hydrodynamical region' as defined by the 'scaling laws' and to determine the temperature dependence of the diffusion constant. These experiments yield a verification of the recent theoretical calculations made by P. Resibois and C. Piette. These calculations and several measurements which we have conducted show the existence of an intermediate region between the 'critical' and the 'hydrodynamical' regions, which we call the 'quasi-hydrodynamical' region. In the hydrodynamical region, whose borders are well defined by the calculations of Resibois and Piette, our results confirm the theoretical predictions concerning this region. (author)
Abstract (French)
Dans le present ouvrage nous relatons les dernieres experiences de diffusion magnetique critique des neutrons par le fer juste au-dessus de la temperature de Curie, realisees au Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay. Par ces experiences nous avons cherche a atteindre la region 'hydrodynamique' definie par la theorie dite 'des lois d'echelle' et a y determiner la variation avec la temperature de la constante de diffusion. Ces experiences apportent une verification des recents calculs theoriques de P. Resibois et C. Piette. Ces calculs, ainsi que les diverses mesures que nous avons faites, mettent en evidence l'existence d'une region intermediaire entre les regions 'critique' et 'hydrodynamique' que nous appelons region 'quasi-hydrodynamique'. Dans la region 'hydrodynamique' dont la frontiere est bien delimitee a partir des calculs de P. Resibois et C. Piette, les resultats des experiences confirment les previsions theoriques concernant cette region. (auteur)Files
