Different causes of the burnout are reviewed. Possible burnout mechanism are enumerated. Burnout at pool boaling is compared with burnout under forced convection. Experiments on burnout visualization and measurement of the consumption in the film at burnout are described. The entrainment diagram is introduced, and its analytical presentation is discussed. Different burnout zones are considered and the notion of controlled precipitation is mentioned. The application of the technique of annular flows modelling is described
