Effects of nuclear relativistic compression in multiple diffraction scattering model of particles and nuclei on nuclei

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

It is shown that the Glauber approximation for scatterings of particles and nuclei on nuclear targets is only weakly sensible to relativistic effects due to contraction of the wave function. The increase in the differential cross section dσsub(el)/dt amounts to, in the average, about one percent in the range up the first diffractional minimum, and falls as 1/M2 with rise of the nuclear mass M. The discussed relativistic corrections are substantial (> or approximately 10%) only for very large momentum transfers, t> or approximately 0.2 M2 (GeV/c)2. (In the case of two-nucleus collisions, M is mass of the lightest nucleus.)
