Continuous recording of neutron flux along a pile canal
Description
The authors present and describe a device which comprises a vertical mast equipped with an electromechanical winch and aligned on an atomic pile canal. These mast and winch guide activate a small lift which can carry a preamplifier connected by a long coaxial cable to a small detector which plunges into the pile at the desired height. The authors describe the electromechanical assembly, the detection assembly (with its counter, coaxial cable, electronic device, shielding, and recorder). They report results obtained for different coaxial lengths, and during experiments of variations of thermal stresses produced in an uranium rod by moving a neighbouring compensation rod, of flow under-pressure produced in an empty isotope canal by the cobalt loading of a neighbouring canal
