External conditions II. Some thoughts on external conditions for the oil and gas activities from an energy and environmental point of view
Description
This presentation, given by one of the Norwegian nature conservationist organizations, examines the pollution emissions from the petroleum activities on the Norwegian shelf to see if the assertion ''Pollution is resources in the wrong place'' holds here. It is concluded that pollution should be considered as a kind of resource emission that represents a loss both for the energy companies and society. Because of this loss, some companies are now basing their activity on a zero-emission philosophy. If one wants to increase the exploitation of fossil resources, new supplies should be localized from the environmental point of view according to a presented list of preferred options, beginning with increased resource efficiency in existing production and transport and ending with projects in especially vulnerable areas. A list is also given of means that will slow down the exploitation rate.
