Radiation-induced processes in natural biotites
- 1. SNC 'Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology, Kharkiv (Ukraine)
Description
The changes of structure and phase composition of regular and hydrated biotite at radiation exposure of electron bombardment and γ-quanta were investigated by the methods of infrared spectroscopy and crystal-optic analysis. As a result radiation the processes of oxidation of iron become more intensive and consecutive positional disorder of a crystal lattice of biotite with the growth of a dose of irradiation was established. After regular biotite is irradiated to the maximum dose ∼ 108 Gy, it keeps the crystal structure, while hydrated biotite undergoes phase transition with formation poorly crystalline a clay phase (vermiculite). These processes are accompanied the change of basic optical constants of mineral and type of its IR-spectra.
