IUE observations of pulsating stars: atmospheric structure, shock waves, and stellar winds

Description

Classes of pulsating stars studied by IUE include Miras and semi-regular (SR) long period variables, Cepheids (Classical and Population II), RR Lyrae stars, and Scuti stars, B Cep stars, Be stars, hot subdwarfs (PG1159 stars), and pulsating white dwarfs, in type Section I of this review, existing IUE observations are briefly surveyed by the of variable; Section 2 concerns current theoretical understanding of properties of the atmospheres of pulsating variable stars most relevant to the interpretation of IUE observations; In Section 3, IUE data for long period variables (Miras and semi-regular (SR) variable stars), Classical Cepheids, and B Cep stars are compared with what is expected on the basis of theoretical atmostpheric models
