Temperature and steady flows in slender magnetic tubes
Description
A theoretical study of steady flows in slender magnetic tubes (''faculae'') has been made with a frozen-field assumption. The main observational characteristics to be considered are the following: a magnetic field strength of 1 to 2 Kilogauss, near tau5000 = 1; a downdraft increasing with depth and exhibiting a fairly large velocity gradient in the inner photosphere; an excess temperature of 10000K or more, in the upper photosphere as deduced from the line weakenings in faculae. The author attempts to answer the question whether a strong enhancement of the temperature due to the rapid increase of the downdraft in the inner layers can be maintained. (Auth.)
