Pre-equilibrium calculations with TALYS for Fe, Pb, and U

  • 1. Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group, Westerduinweg, Petten (Netherlands)

Description

This paper illustrates the present capabilities of the nuclear reaction code TALYS for the calculation of pre-equilibrium spectra. TALYS contains a pre-equilibrium model for nucleons with incident energies from 7 to 200 MeV: the two-component exciton model including surface effects and multiple pre-equilibrium emission up to any order. The validity of this model up to these high incident energies relies on a new energy-dependent form for the average squared matrix element M2, which is justified by collision probabilities based on the optical model potential. Iron, lead and uranium are used as an example to test the predictive power of our approach. (orig.)
