Description
The integrity of the steam generator tubes is a mandatory requirement for safe operation of a pressurized water reactor. It can be shown that tubes can withstand the loading resulting from normal operation as well as from anticipated pipe break accidents even if the tubes are locally degraded by up to 70% of the wall thickness. The eddy current techniques applied allows the detection of wall thinning of less than 20%. The operating performance of KWU steam generators shows that the corrosion rate, if any, is so small that an unacceptable wall degradation cannot occur between two inspections of the steam generator
