Semiclassical descriptions and maximum entropy

  • 1. Universidad Nacional, La Plata (Argentina). Dept. de Fisica

Description

Semiclassical descriptions are combined with information-theoretic ideas in order to develop an algorithm that, based upon the maximum-entropy principle, and employing as input-information expectation values evaluated according to different semiclassical treatments, produces one-body densities valid everywhere. The concomitant total energies for an N-fermion system are seen to be upper bounds to the total energy, and any possible divergence at the turning points is altogether avoided. The method is illustrated with reference to the harmonic oscillator and the Saxon-Woods model potentials. ((orig.))
